ORIGINAL
OR COPY? Ladies and gentlemen, can one and the
same type of Honda engine be available at
different prices?
YES IT
CAN!
We explain how
the matter stands.
Regularly we get the
remark that, in Europe, 'open frame version generating
sets which are not subject to further
sound-insulating measures' equipped
with a Honda engine can be bought at very low
prices.
In this case, it is very important
to check first whether we are dealing with an
original Honda engine or not. Fact is that lots of
Chinese copy engines can be found on the market,
which are not really suitable for professional
use. Pricewise Honda has no defence, but with
regards to quality, there surely
is a major difference. When in fact we are
dealing with an original Honda engine, indeed
different versions of this type of engine might
exist. There are versions that are meant for the
European market, which comply of course with the
current directives on
noise level and emissions, but there
also exist other versions that do not comply with
the European standards. The following table can be
of assistance while informing your clients on this
matter.

EUROPEAN
DIRECTIVES |
In
the following table you can find per type of
generating set whether:
- the generating sets comply with the EC directives
,
the generating sets do not comply with the
European Noise Directive (2000/14/CE),
and whether the generating sets do not
comply with the European Noise and Emission
Directive (EURO 2).We compare the
different versions that exist of a certain type of
engine. The price difference between a
generating set that complies with all directives
and one that does not can be considerable, equally
for the purchase price as for the enduser
price.

The
engine type, version and number can be found on
the engine. They are engraved in the engine block
on the side where the ON/OFF switch is
situated (see figure).
