Ladies and Gentlemen, are you prepared to handle an extended power outage?
It could happen to you…
Electricity is often taken for granted. It is only when a power outage occurs that we realize how much we rely on electricity. Think about the consequences at home or in the office! No lighting, heating, air conditioning, hot water or alarms. Telephones become useless, computers and televisions stop working, refrigerators and freezers fail … Conserving food will become difficult.
There are many other examples where a power outage can cause loss or damage: farmers* who use infra-red lamps to warm piglets or chickens can incur serious losses, the stock of food traders will decay, pet shop owners could lose the inhabitants of terraria and aquaria. Cash dispensers will fail as well. Gas stations and shops with automatic doors will stay closed.
… but not if you rely on EUROPOWER
A EUROPOWER generator equipped with a EUROPOWER manual or auto change-over system will protect you from unpleasant surprises at home or at your office or workplace. With this system you will be prepared for anything! In general, there are two systems: one with a manual switch-over and one with automatic takeover.
Manual change-over switch
If there is a power cut-off, all you have to do is start your generating set and change the position of the change-over switch. When the mains returns, you reset the change-over switch to its original position and turn off the generator.
Advantages:
• Low price
• Easy to install
• Easy to use
• Manual change-over mains/zero/generator: 100% safe
• Can be used with a manual and an electric start generator
|
Disadvantages:
-
You have to be present when the mains fails
-
The generating set has to be started manually
-
It is possible that the generator will fail to start after a long period of inactivity (our advice is to start the genset regularly, in particular, as after a certain time, gasoline can lose quality and the batteries may discharge)
|
*Tractor owners have the possibility to work with and alternator and a multiplier fixed to the tractor’s PTO-shaft. In this case you will need a manual change-over switch as well.

Automatic change-over switch
If the power goes out, this system ensures that the generating set will start up automatically and that you are provided with electricity again. When the mains returns, the generating set will be switched off automatically after a cooling-off period. Please be aware that there will be an interruption in the power supply both when starting and stopping the generating set. Always connect your PC network to a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) to tide over these few seconds of power cut-off and to prevent data loss.
Advantages:
• Your presence is not required when the mains fails
• Fully automatic
• Easy to install
• Easy to use
• Very high reliability because of self-test
• Failure indications on the display
• 100% safe automatic change-over mains/genset, change-over relays mechanically and electrically secured
• Hour counter, voltmeter, frequency- and battery voltage meter
• Built-in battery charger
|
Disadvantages:
• Only works with electric start generators with automatic/electric choke for generators with gasoline engine / with stop solenoid for generators with diesel engine
• More expensive than the manual change-over switch
